Loud Protests Harm the Vulnerable
Peaceful protest does not protect the shouting, the bullhorns, the beating of drums and it has to stop
Protests are an essential tool for individuals and groups to voice their concerns and advocate for change. However, there is a fine line between peaceful protest and aggressive tactics that can cause harm and damage to property. One such tactic is the use of shouting down speakers, bullhorns, and loud noises, which are antithetical to peaceful protest.
Shouting down speakers is a tactic used to silence those with whom protesters disagree. This is not only disrespectful, but it also undermines the very principles of free speech and open dialogue that are essential to a functioning democracy. Bullhorns and loud noises are similarly problematic. While they may be effective in drawing attention to a cause, they can also be incredibly disruptive and can cause real harm to individuals with autism spectrum disorder.
People with autism spectrum disorder are highly sensitive to loud noises and other sensory stimuli. Exposure to loud noises can cause extreme discomfort, anxiety, and even physical pain. When protesters use bullhorns and other loud instruments, they are inflicting real-world violence on individuals with autism spectrum disorder. This is unacceptable and must be stopped to prevent harm to disabled individuals.
Moreover, it is essential to recognize that such aggressive tactics are often counterproductive to the goals of the protest. When protesters use these tactics, they risk alienating potential allies and creating a negative image of their cause. It is much more effective to engage in peaceful dialogue and respectful debate to achieve change.
As a mom of an autistic adult, when I see people like AOC and others with large followings encourage this type of behavior, I become angry. What happened to protecting the most vulnerable among us?
> What happened to protecting the most vulnerable among us?
The left forgot that that was its thing. Now they protect the most *intersectional* among us.
My advice is to avoid the circus that modern American culture has become. When it's necessary to engage, just shrug afterwards and say "See kids, this is what I mean when I say Americans are nuts." Also: Bake apple pies. It works very well for me!
